Roosevelt the Blue Bullet

Roosevelt the Blue Bullet

I’m not talking about the Bull Moose (our 26th president) here, but my main method of transportation, the minivan. This July I accepted a job in Utah and packed up everything I wanted to own inside a van. Originally my plan was to dwell in such style for only a trial, but I’m hooked now and I’ll be here for a while.

The Blue Bullet is a five door, nine window, 28 sq. ft. (approximate) house on wheels. Its amenities include sunlight when the sun is out, a constantly shifting foundation, infinitely customizable views out of all nine windows, a firm bed that sleeps two or seats six+, the most jammin of tunes, an exterior roof closet complete with all the gear you need to live that hippy lifestyle, and one van dwelling dude who loves all things life.

Roosevelt, the man, was tough and adventurous and strong and large and in charge. He was a heavy set man with an unstoppable lust for adventure and he never let his size stop him from going where he needed to be. Roosevelt, the van, shares all these traits. It is large, in charge, and it longs for adventure down every dirt road and sand barge. It has been driven down roads that it should not have come up, and seen nights filled with super moons, shooting stars, and Park City bars.

Currently my organization consists of the gear closet up top, and a wicker picnic basket turned clothes cabinet. The windows are blocked at night with custom cut cardboard and I have a few boxes for the assorted books, food, and gear that is used daily.

Planning on staying the winter inside the icy blue walls, there are a few upgrades and changes that must be made. First priority, a heater. I have been experimenting with the simple, yet controversial tea light powered ceramic heater. I have no complaints so far, and yes Mom, I do have a fire extinguisher bedside just in case. Second project on the list is cloth window coverings. I need to develop some form of rail or hook system around the top and perhaps bottom of the windows so that I can better block light and stay stylish in the process. The final upgrade to be made before it gets too cold is an official dresser / drawer system. I have all the measurements taken but I have yet to find the right size so this one may have to be home made as well. That’s OK though, all of the best things are home made.

Once all these projects are completed I will update this page with all kinds of fun photos of the space I am lucky enough to call home. But until then, here are a couple pictures of the van, the myth, the legend.
